Evaluation Question 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

From my media products, I had researched into the different conventions and forms and had decided upon a select few in which I would develop and challenge;

-Costumes in Jazz history have all been suit and tie for representing the past, and shirt and trousers for the youth to show difference. So I decided to swap this around and make sure that my young male model wore a suit and that my older male model wore shirt and trousers. This gives the impression of a mergence of old and new to try and make sure that there is no difference in age and that all jazz players are the same.

-The masthead traditionally is roughly 1/4 of the page in size, I did succeed, but I did use a banner to make sure that I could experiment with the different fonts to improve the style of the masthead.

-Conventional Colours for jazz magazines are blue, yellow, black, white, and red. I have broken this convention by using the colours green and purple.

-The only other convention which was broken would be the photo convention. This was the convention of only having one person in the photo at once. This is because the target audience is young and from my research I found that people prefer to see magazines which are printed with multiple people on the front page.

Overall, I believe I have manipulated each convention so that it would be useful as some of my desires for this magazine had issues due to the conventions and such being quite strict. I believe it was the right choice for me break a few of these conventions as it gave me enough freedom to alter the magazine to be the best it could possibly and my target audience research states that they have taken to the idea of green and purple very well.

If I were to change anything, it would be the fonts and colour scheme. I do like the fonts and colours used, but I have to admit that I am not a huge fan and the fonts aren't quite what I had in mind.

Evaluation Question 3

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

After going through all the institutions, I have found that Bauer and Mark Allen Group Business and leisure are  potential institutions for my media product.
First of all, Bauer are a huge media company who have a wide variety of magazines who could potentially be looking for new projects which could potentially develop a large fan-base. The one problem with this idea is that Bauer are absolutely huge with a large portfolio of magazine franchises. This could cause the institution to not want to take on a new franchise as they already have a number of established franchises.

My other Institution in which I am going to do is Mark Allen Group (or MAG). I have chosen these as they are the the company who produce JazzWise. This is significant because JazzWise is the top selling Jazz magazine for the UK, which is where my Target Audience are from. Therefore, if I used MAG, they already have a following of people who are into the JazzWise magazine who cold have a look at this magazine. One issue with this is the idea that they won't take my products on board. The main reason as to why they wouldn't is because they already have an established Jazz magazine which is very successful so they may see it as a waste of time.

Overall, I believe that Mark Allen group will be the best institution for me to approach with my magazine. This is because Bauer already have a massive portfolio of magazines, which gives me a lot of competition to be a successful magazine compared to the Bauer magazines. Also, Mark Allen group already has a jazz magazine, even though their magazine is aimed at an older audience. This would compliment my magazine well as between them both, w can cover a wide age range when it comes to the target audience.

Evaluation Question 4+5

"The age of my target audience is 16 to 25. I can keep to this by using bright colours in certain areas to get their attention."
I was able to meet this criteria, during the making of the magazines, I was able to implement part of this by making the magazine bright for the younger audience. personally, i thought it worked as it separated my magazine from the rest, due to it being bright, therefore braking a convention.

"I would also make sure that the magazine is unisex. This so that I have the biggest target audience as possible. If my target audience is diverse enough that gives the magazine enough of a chance to get sold."
I was able to meet this as I allowed my text to be varied for both sexes. The photos I used had both female and male models in which gave the male gaze and the female gaze to the target audience.

"I would try and make sure that people with different lifestyles; including those with long working hours, unemployed or people who have only got a weak education. If I can implement enough diversity into my magazine, this magazine will be great for anyone who likes Jazz"
I was able to meet this criteria as the point for people who had a weak education was still able to read the magazine due my inclusion of simplistic language. To a certain extent, this did work as it allowed a wide range of people to be able to read the magazine, but one issue in which I created with this idea is that professionals and much more dedicated character in the Jazz industry might be less inclined to read as the language would have thought it was too primitive for them.

"Things in which I have to be cautious about though are making sure that nothing which is subjective or offensive to any religion or social group is used."
I met this this criteria as the content I included was not offensive in any shape or form. This is because no discrimination, racism or promotion or negativity had been implemented into my work.
